Matulin signs two-year, $16 million contract with the Pelicans.

August 28th - According to ESPN, Benedict Maturin has reached a two-year, $16 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, with a player option for the second year.

According to reports, Mathelin's team had communicated with the Los Angeles Clippers, hoping to withdraw their $8.8 million qualifying offer, allowing the player to find a more suitable team as a free agent. Ultimately, Mathelin chose to join the Pelicans, securing a more stable contract .

The Pelicans have been pursuing Matulin for over a year and see him as an important part of their young core. This signing will also help the team remain below the luxury tax threshold in the new season .

Last season, Matulin played for the Indiana Pacers and Clippers, appearing in 54 games, including 25 starts. He averaged 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, all career highs .

Matulin was selected 6th overall by the Pacers in the 2022 NBA Draft. To date, he has played 263 regular season games, averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game .
