Chelsea secured a 3-2 victory over Fulham in their opening Premier League match of the new season, thanks to goals from João Pedro, Morgan Rodgers, and Brendan Palmer. Rodgers praised the players' resilience and fighting spirit, and expressed his own hope to quickly regain his form.
Shortly after the start of the match, Palmer received the ball and passed it diagonally to João Pedro, who then entered the penalty area and chipped the ball into the net, giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead. In the 23rd minute, Castagne passed the ball across the box, and Josh King followed up, entering the penalty area and firing a shot into the net, leveling the score at 1-1 for Fulham.
In the 41st minute, Lacroix passed the ball back from the penalty area, and Morgan Rodgers, unmarked, slotted it home, giving Chelsea a 2-1 lead over Fulham again.
In the 49th minute of the second half, João Pedro played a through ball from the penalty area, and Palmer slotted home to extend Chelsea's lead to 3-1. In the 55th minute, Castagne received possession and fired a shot that was saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Gonzalo Garcia then headed the ball into the net, making it 2-3 for Fulham.
Chelsea ultimately defeated Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
Morgan Rodgers, making his Premier League debut for Chelsea, said: "It was a fantastic game, and to score and help the team win is all I'm looking forward to in my debut."
“I think we played our best in the game and really enjoyed playing on the pitch. It was really difficult playing away against Fulham, and they played very well, but we showed fighting spirit, tenacity and resilience. I think we were the better team in this game.”
Morgan Rogers shared, "Towards the end of the game, I felt I wasn't in as good a position and was a bit tired, so I was substituted in the last 10 minutes. I had been feeling great during the preseason, but because of the World Cup, I didn't get much rest, so I wanted to keep my body in shape."
"When you join a new team, you certainly don't want to appear slow or unable to keep up with the pace of the game, so I always try to maintain my best condition and adapt to the team as quickly as possible."
In addition, Chelsea will host Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in the second round of the 2026/27 EFL Cup.
Morgan Rogers also said, "I think I can still improve. I need to find my form as soon as possible because there will be a lot of games coming up. But as I said, I felt good on the court and really enjoyed the game."
