Brighton & Wanderers have officially announced the signing of Young Boys left-back Hajjam on a five-year contract.

Brighton & Wanderers officially announced on Tuesday that they have signed Algerian left-back Jaouan Hajam from Young Boys Bern. The two sides have agreed a five-year contract, running until June 30, 2031.

Regarding the signing, Brighton's sporting director Mike Cave commented: "We believe Jawyn will be a strong addition to the team, further strengthening our already formidable defense."

“He is a modern left-back known for his speed, attacking ability, and technique, which is a perfect fit for our tactical style. He has already proven his versatility in the Swiss Super League, and we are very much looking forward to working with him.”

According to French media reports, Hajam's transfer fee is €11 million plus €2 million in add-ons.

The 23-year-old Hajam came through the Paris FC youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in Ligue 2 on August 23, 2020. He then briefly played for Nantes for half a season, making a total of 21 appearances in Ligue 1.

In January 2024, Hajjam transferred to Young Boys Bern for €1.3 million. To date, he has made 98 appearances for Young Boys Bern, scoring 6 goals and providing 7 assists, and has won one Swiss Super League title with the team.

At the national team level, Hajam has chosen to represent his parents' homeland, Algeria. He has made 21 appearances for Algeria since March 2023, including in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup.
