Stan: Several teams are closely monitoring the Kyrie Irving trade situation.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has become a potential acquisition target for several NBA teams. Although the Mavericks have not yet expressed any intention to trade him, other teams in the league are closely monitoring his situation.

As the number one overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, Kyrie Irving has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, and Dallas Mavericks throughout his career. To date, he has played 779 regular season games, averaging 34.5 minutes, 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, and has been selected to the NBA All-Star team nine times.

Kyrie Irving also played 96 playoff games, averaging 37.4 minutes, 23.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, with a field goal percentage of 45.8% and a three-point percentage of 39.2%. His most representative playoff achievement was undoubtedly helping LeBron James win the NBA championship in 2016.

However, Kyrie Irving has been sidelined since suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in March 2025. Prior to that, he played 128 regular season games for the Mavericks, averaging 25.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, with a field goal percentage of 49.0% and a three-point percentage of 40.4%.

Given Kyrie Irving's outstanding performance before his injury, the Mavericks still prefer to keep him on the roster. They also continued to reject numerous offers during the offseason, but discussions about whether the two sides can work together long-term have never stopped.

The reason why there are doubts within the league about the future of Kyrie Irving's partnership with the Mavericks lies in the nearly 15-year age gap between Irving and Cooper Flagg, the Mavericks' promising young star. Coupled with the departure of the entire coaching staff from the Kidd era, Irving's future with the Mavericks has become the subject of much discussion.

It's widely believed that the Mavericks may reassess Kyrie Irving's role before the trade deadline in February. However, the Mavericks' management still wants to observe the development of Irving's partnership with Flagg. Irving is expected to return from injury in the 2026/27 season, and his chemistry with Flagg will be a key factor to watch in the Mavericks' upcoming season.
