Thompson on joining the Heat: "The demanding requirements here are exactly what attracted me."

After reaching a buyout agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, Klay Thompson cleared waivers and quickly signed a two-year, $11.5 million contract with the Miami Heat, with a player option for the second year.

To join the Heat, Thompson voluntarily gave up approximately $10 million in salary. In the new season, he will team up with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, and former Warriors teammate Andrew Wiggins to contend for the championship.

The four-time NBA champion and fourth-all-time three-point shooter said the Heat's winning culture was key to his decision to join the team. At Tuesday's press conference, Thompson explained his choice of Miami: "I knew it was an extremely demanding environment, and that's what drew me here."

"I have tasted victory before, and that feeling is irreplaceable. The prospect of competing for victory again on a stage of extremely high standard is incredibly appealing to me."

Speaking about the team's goals and potential for the new season, Thompson described it as limitless, adding, "For me, this is a redemption season, to prove that I can still have an impact on winning and can continue to do so. I can't wait to get started. It feels a bit unbelievable to be here, but it's a great honor."

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra highly praised Klay Thompson's basketball IQ and offensive and defensive abilities, stating that his championship experience will greatly enhance the team. Having acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson this summer, the Heat have become one of the most watched championship contenders for the new season.
