Former Liverpool Uruguay international forward Darwin Núñez officially joins Al Diriyah on-loan..

Al Diriyah announced on the club's official website on Sunday that former Liverpool Uruguay international forward Darwin Núñez has joined the club on-loan.

According to Al Diriyah's official statement, Núñez will play for the club on-loan until the end of the new season, and the loan agreement does not include any buyout clause.

It is worth mentioning that this statement completely quashes the fake rumours which claimed that Núñez had agreed to join Trabzonspor.

Since mid-August, the infamously notorious Turkish media outlet Fotomaç has been falsely claiming, with pictures and text, that Núñez had agreed to join the Turkish Süper Lig giants and reunite with his former teammate Mohamed Salah. However, apart from those British online media outlets who are of similarly low-quality and aggregator accounts from China and Hong Kong on Weibo and Facebook, no authoritative media outlets as well as their journalists have ever confirmed this news.

About Darwin Núñez

Núñez, 27, was born on June 24, 1999, in Altigas, Uruguay. He is 1.87 meters tall. He primarily plays as a center forward, but can also play as a left winger, possessing excellent running ability.

Núñez previously played for Peñarol, Almería, and Benfica. In July 2022, he joined Liverpool for a record-breaking £80 million, becoming one of the club's most expensive signings.

During his three-year spell with the Reds, Núñez won one Premier League title and one Community Shield with the club, as well as reaching the Carabao Cup final twice.

In August 2025, Núñez joined Al-Hilal for €53 million.

However, since January 2026, due to factors such as the arrival of teammate Karim Benzema, restrictions on foreign player registration slots, and changes in Al-Hilal's ownership structure, Núñez has been inexplicably removed from Al-Hilal's first-team squad.

Since joining Al-Hilal, so far, Núñez has made only 24 appearances for the Saudi Pro League giants across all competitions, scoring 9 goals and providing 5 assists.
