Klay Thompson clears waivers and signs a two-year, $13 million contract with the Heat.

After clearing waivers, 36-year-old veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson officially signed a two-year, $13 million contract with the Miami Heat, with a player option for the second year.

In the new season, Thompson will team up with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to represent the Heat in their pursuit of the NBA championship. Previously, the Dallas Mavericks bought out the final year of Thompson's $17.5 million contract, making him a free agent.

Last season, the Mavericks had a poor performance, finishing with a record of only 26 wins and 56 losses. Thompson subsequently made it clear to management that he wanted to leave the team and play for a championship contender. After acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster trade, the Heat quickly made Thompson their top target for strengthening their roster, and ultimately successfully signed him.

Thompson spent his first 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, during which he was selected to the All-Star team five times and won four NBA championships with the team. In the summer of 2024, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks via a sign-and-trade.

Currently, Thompson ranks fourth on the NBA's all-time list of three-pointers made. Entering next season, he will be just 74 three-pointers away from surpassing Hall of Famer Ray Allen, who holds third place. After joining the Heat, his outside shooting ability will become a core tactical weapon for the team to stretch their offense.
