RB Leipzig midfielder Elmas has joined Atalanta on loan, with an option to buy included in the contract.

Atalanta announced on Saturday that they have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the loan of Ellie Elmas. Elmas will play for Atalanta until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option to buy for €12 million.

Sky Sports Germany further points out that Atalanta will also need to pay RB Leipzig an additional €2 million loan fee. Furthermore, Atalanta will cover Elmas's full salary during his loan spell.

The 26-year-old Elmas primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play as a left winger, central midfielder, right winger, and defensive midfielder. Born in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, he has played for several clubs during his career, including Labot Niki, Fenerbahce, and Napoli.

In January 2024, Elmas joined RB Leipzig from Napoli for €24 million. He made only 22 appearances for RB Leipzig before being loaned out to Torino and Napoli.

This is why Elmas is no stranger to Serie A. He has made 246 appearances for Napoli and Torino to date, contributing 24 goals and 15 assists, and has won the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup once each with Napoli.

At the national team level, Elmas has also made an impact. To date, he has made 79 appearances for North Macedonia, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists.

After completing the transfer, Elmas stated through official channels: "I am very happy to be here. From the first day of negotiations, I knew that wearing the Atalanta jersey would be a special thing. I have joined a great club with a glorious history, considering that they have just won the Europa League title."

According to the official statement, Elmas will wear the number 99 jersey during his loan period.
