After Manchester United suffered a 0-2 defeat to Hull City away from home, marking a disappointing start to the league season, manager Michael Carrick displayed a calm and professional attitude in a post-match interview, urging the team to address the issues and make improvements.
When asked about the public's questions about his calm demeanor, Carrick explained, "I appeared very restrained when I spoke to people, but I was actually not calm inside, and I didn't enjoy today at all. There's a big difference."
“I played for Manchester United for a long time. If you don’t know how to face results and ups and downs day after day, you can’t stand here. We continue to work as usual, but that doesn’t mean we don’t care.”
Carrick emphasized that the team doesn't need to express their attitude through emotional outbursts: "This doesn't mean we have to yell, jump around, or create chaos. We are in great pain after the loss, and we know the team must get better. Outward composure does not mean there are no emotions inside."
In response to this unexpected defeat, Carrick expressed his firm confidence in the team's long-term plans: "The result has already happened, we lost the game, and it's definitely not a good feeling."
"But this is just a game, and anything can happen on the football field. One loss will never change our overall direction and team-building plans as a team and a club," Carrick said, adding that the team will quickly turn its attention to the upcoming training and preparations.
