The Cavaliers acquired Payton Watson in a five-team sign-and-trade deal.

The Cleveland Cavaliers completed a five-team sign-and-trade deal involving the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte Hornets, and Washington Wizards to officially acquire young forward Peyton Watson.

As the late first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Watson had a breakout season, playing 54 regular-season games and averaging 14.6 points and 4.9 rebounds. After serving his four-year rookie contract, he rejected the Denver Nuggets' offer for an early contract extension and opted to join the Cleveland Cavaliers via a sign-and-trade.

Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman expressed his strong approval of Watson's signing: "Payton is young and extremely talented, and fits perfectly with the team's future direction."

“His wingspan, athleticism, and defensive versatility allow us to enable him to play multiple positions and significantly enhance the team’s tactical flexibility on both ends of the court. We believe he can achieve a new breakthrough in his career in Cleveland.”

Last season, Watson helped the Nuggets achieve the third-best record in the Western Conference, but unfortunately missed the playoffs due to a hamstring injury. With his recovery and skill development, this young wing player, capable of both defense and finishing, will play a key role in the Cavaliers' roster rotation and long-term team building plan.
