Burnley have officially signed Anel Ahmedhodžić to a four-year contract.

Burnley have officially announced the signing of Bosnian centre-back Anel Ahmedhodžić. The 27-year-old defender previously played for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie. The transfer fee has not yet been disclosed. Anel Ahmedhodžić has signed a four-year contract, meaning he will remain with Burnley until the summer of 2030.

Anel Ahmedhodžić has extensive experience playing in the Championship. In 2023, he helped Sheffield United achieve promotion to the Premier League. Now returning to the Championship, Ahmedhodžić has chosen to join Burnley, hoping to bring his experience to the team and help them aim for higher goals.

Anel Ahmedhodžić said after joining Burnley: “I’m very happy to be here at Burnley. I’ve played at Turf Moor before for other teams and have always been impressed by the atmosphere. I’m really looking forward to playing for the home team and playing here. I’m no stranger to the Championship and have a lot of experience in it, and I hope to bring that experience to the team and help Burnley. I can’t wait to start this new journey.”

Anel Ahmedhodžić was born in Malmö, Sweden, and received systematic training at his hometown club, Malmö, early in his football career. He then moved to England to join Nottingham Forest, joining the club's youth academy in January 2016, primarily playing for the U18 team. At the age of 17, he made his first-team debut, playing against Newcastle United. In 2019, Anel Ahmedhodžić returned to Malmö and was later loaned to Danish club Hobro.

After returning to Malmö, Anel Ahmedhodžić quickly established himself in the team and gradually became a key player in the defense. Over two seasons, he made more than 80 appearances for the club and helped Malmö win the Swedish top-flight league title twice. In the second half of the 2021/22 season, he briefly left Sweden, joining Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on loan, embarking on a new overseas league experience.

At the national team level, Anel Ahmedhodžić initially represented Sweden at various youth levels, including U17, U19, and U21, and also made appearances for the Swedish senior national team in friendly matches. He later decided to switch national team representation to Bosnia and Herzegovina. In September 2020, Anel Ahmedhodžić received his first call-up to the Bosnian senior national team, officially beginning his Bosnian international career.

In the summer of 2022, Anel Ahmedhodžić joined Sheffield United and helped the team achieve promotion to the Premier League in his first season. Although Sheffield United were subsequently relegated, Anel Ahmedhodžić remained a key figure in the defense. After returning to the Championship, he continued to play a crucial role and helped the team launch another push for promotion, only to be defeated by Sunderland in the Wembley play-off final, missing out on promotion to the Premier League again.

In the summer of 2025, Anel Ahmedhodžić left Sheffield United to join Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie. Last season, he made 36 appearances for the team in the Eredivisie and Europa League, gaining valuable European experience. Now, after a season in Rotterdam, the Bosnian center-back has officially moved to Burnley. To date, he has made over 250 appearances for the senior team. With his extensive playing experience and excellent physical attributes, Anel Ahmedhodžić's arrival is expected to further enhance Burnley's defensive strength and overall stability.
