Trenton Watford agrees to a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the Pelicans.

August 19th - According to ESPN , free agent forward Trenton Watford has reached a one - year, $ 2.9 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans .

In late June of this year , the 76ers declined Watford 's $ 2.8 million team option for the 2026-27 season , making him a free agent. Last season, Watford played 53 games, starting 7 of them , averaging 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 16.3 minutes per game. This was also the lowest scoring season of his career, following his 10.2 points per game with the Nets .

This is Watford 's fourth NBA team in six seasons . Previously, he played two seasons each for the Trail Blazers and the Nets.

The 25- year-old Watford can play both forward positions. This signing brings the Pelicans' standard contract roster to 15 players. However, he will still need to compete for a regular rotation spot. He is expected to get more playing time if the team experiences injuries or roster adjustments.
