Niklas Fürkrug joined Werder Bremen on loan for one season.

Werder Bremen have officially announced the signing of 33-year-old German striker Niklas Fürkluge on a one-season loan from West Ham United. The German international returns to Werder Bremen after three years, adding experience and strength to the team's attack and further enhancing their offensive competitiveness.  

Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football at Werder Bremen, said: "We are delighted to have completed the return of Niklas Füllkrug. The transfer was made possible by his very clear desire to return. He has always wanted to be a member of Werder Bremen again, which is very important to us."  

“Niklas Fürklüg is very familiar with the Bundesliga, so we believe he can quickly integrate into the team and help us immediately. We also know that his development over the past two seasons has not been entirely in line with his plans. But we firmly believe that he will be able to regain his form and achieve success after returning to Werder Bremen.”  

Head coach Daniel Cuné is also very excited about Niklas Füllkrug's arrival. He stated that the German striker is a typical striker with excellent physical attributes, outstanding aerial ability, and solid footwork. Furthermore, he can use his physical advantages to protect possession and provide more focal points for the team in the attacking third.  

Daniel Cuné also emphasized Niklas Füllkrug's leadership, saying, "He is a very charismatic player who can have a positive impact on the team both on the pitch and in the locker room. He previously played for Werder Bremen and is very familiar with the club's environment, and he also knows many of his former teammates and staff, so I believe he can quickly reintegrate into the team."  

Speaking about wearing the Werder Bremen jersey again, Niklas Fürkrug said: "I have never hidden the special meaning Werder Bremen has for me. It has always been a very special club for me, so I was willing to make some adjustments to my financial situation to make this return possible."  

"Being able to play for Werder Bremen again means a lot to me. My communication with the club's management has been very smooth, which makes me even more excited to come back here. Stepping back onto the Bundesliga pitch and seeing familiar teammates, staff, and people associated with Bremen again will give me a feeling of coming home, and that feeling is really wonderful."  

Niklas Fürklüg came through the youth academy of Werder Bremen, where he began his professional career and gradually developed into a Bundesliga player. After leaving Bremen, he played for Greuther Fürth, FC Nuremberg, and Hannover 96 before returning to the Weser River in 2019. Three years ago, Fürklüg transferred to Borussia Dortmund, and later played for West Ham United. In January of this year, he joined AC Milan on loan.  

Upon his return to Werder Bremen, Niklas Fürklüg will leverage his extensive Bundesliga experience, excellent finishing ability, and strong leadership to further enhance the team's attacking prowess and strengthen the forward line.
