If you're complacent, Dillon Brooks: Someone will soon take your place.

Dillon Brooks, 30, recently signed a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns. In a recent interview, Brooks said that if players are complacent because of their contracts, other players will soon take their place.

In the 2025/26 NBA regular season, Dillon Brooks played 56 games for the Phoenix Suns, averaging 20.2 points per game with a field goal percentage of 43.5% and a three-point field goal percentage of 34.4%.

When discussing how some players become too complacent because of their contracts, Phoenix Suns shooting guard Dillon Brooks said, "That has always been my motivation and sense of urgency. I saw it when I first entered the NBA: sometimes money can make people complacent and satisfied with the status quo."

"It can make you feel like you're already good enough and don't need to keep improving. But I've also learned something over the years: the NBA is constantly getting stronger and stronger, and young players are constantly emerging. If you don't maintain the form that got you this contract in a year, then a player will quickly take your place."

Dillon Brooks said, "I'm not saying my three-point shot is bad; I'm actually doing pretty well. But I want to add a three-point shot that can create more space, so that defenders won't dare to threaten me easily. That way, they'll guard me higher and closer, and I can use that to drive to the basket and take the shots I really like."

"As for passing, Phoenix Suns general manager Brian Gregory told me that I had to improve my passing, and I have been doing targeted training ever since."

In addition, regarding the additions of Miles Bridges and Luke Kennard, Dillon Brooks said, "These two players add shooting ability and spacing to our game, and they also bring more athleticism to the team."
