Amin Nabizada: I will not be complacent about scoring goals, but will continue to remain humble and strive for improvement.

Watford defeated Southampton 2-1 in their Championship opener, and Armin Nabizada had his moment in the spotlight. The academy graduate scored his first professional goal and was visibly excited after the match, hoping this was just the beginning of his continued scoring spree.  

With the match approaching the 30-minute mark, Amin Nabizada broke through defenses with his individual skill and calmly slotted the ball home, extending Watford's lead to 2-0. This goal made him only the second Afghan international in history to score in an English football league match. For Amin Nabizada, making his first start for Watford's first team, this was undoubtedly a memorable day in his career.  

He said, "It felt absolutely incredible! I certainly hope this is just the beginning and that I can keep scoring. I was originally going to pass the ball into the box, but my first touch was a bit too heavy, so I decided to just take the shot myself. Luckily, it went in, and everyone was so excited. I really hope I can have this feeling every week from now on."  

"The team has a very good team atmosphere, which is very evident in the game. Everyone actively helps their teammates and is willing to give their all for each other."  

After a period of waiting and preparation, Armin Nabizada finally got his first start for Watford's first team. Previously, he made his first-team league debut in February 2025 against Leeds United.  

Nineteen-year-old Amin Nabizada spoke about the important role his family played in his football journey and also thanked head coach Alessio Dionissi for his support. He said, "From a very young age, my dream was to become a professional football player. My brothers have helped me a lot as I grew up, and they have taught me a lot."  

"The Watford youth academy provided a fantastic environment for my development, and the staff there are all excellent. We've always supported each other and progressed together. I also hope to see more players from the youth system join the first team in the future."  

“I have been training with the first team for a while now, so I have always felt that I am ready. I am very grateful to the head coach for his trust in me. He is willing to give me opportunities and allow me to fully utilize my strengths in the game. It feels great to actually step onto the field, and this makes me want to give my all every day and repay his trust with my actions.”  

Despite scoring in his first first-team start and performing well in the unfamiliar right wing position, Amin Nabizada remained calm. He said, "I played on the right wing today, so I needed to be mentally prepared before the game because I hadn't really played that position before. Now I won't be satisfied with just one goal; I will continue to be humble, train hard every day, and move forward step by step."  

"When I hear the fans chanting my name, it feels really special, and it gives me even more motivation and passion. I know I still have a lot to improve in, because my goal is to keep getting closer to the highest level and become a better version of myself. I won't be easily affected by my performance, whether it's good or bad. I can't be overconfident because of one game, nor can I be depressed because of one mistake. I will continue to focus on training and move forward step by step."
