Stuttgart's young player Ulrich has joined Paderborn on loan; the contract does not include a buy-out clause.

Paderborn 07 announced on Sunday that they have reached an agreement with Stuttgart for the loan signing of Laurin Ulrich. Ulrich will play for Paderborn until the end of the 2026/27 season, with no option to buy.

The official announcement also confirmed that Ulrich will wear the number 28 jersey during his loan spell. For Ulrich, this loan also marks his first opportunity to play in the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old Ulrich primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play in several other positions, including central midfielder and left winger. He came through the Stuttgart youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the Bundesliga on November 12, 2022.

However, Ulrich has long lacked consistent playing time at Stuttgart. Since June 2024, he has been loaned to Ulm and Magdeburg, making a total of 38 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga and 3 in the German Cup, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists.

Following the completion of the loan, Stuttgart's sporting director, Fabian Wolgmuth, offered his best wishes to Ulrich: "Laurin Ulrich is a very special player for us. He was nurtured in our youth academy from a young age and eventually made it to the 2. Bundesliga. He perfectly embodies the spirit of Stuttgart. This loan will provide Laurin with the opportunity to take a new step in his career in the Bundesliga. We wish Laurin all the best in Paderborn and will closely monitor his development."

Paderborn's sporting director, Sebastian Lange, stated: "Laurin is a highly skilled and intelligent player. Despite his young age, he has already accumulated a wealth of experience in the 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga. Last season, he also played a crucial role in Magdeburg's midfield. We firmly believe that Laurin will join us in taking this to the next level. He is a perfect fit for Paderborn 07, both on and off the pitch."
