Carrick believes Manchester United failed to perform to their expected level after losing a friendly match to AC Milan.

Manchester United suffered a 2-4 defeat to AC Milan in a friendly match at the Wrocław Municipal Stadium in Poland, thanks to goals from Maguire and Patrick Dögü. Carrick stated that his team did not play to their potential and therefore must learn from the experience.

Shortly after the start of the match, Bruno Fernandes took a corner kick, and Maguire headed the ball into the net, giving Manchester City a 1-0 lead. In the 37th minute, Chucueze received a cross from Gonzalo Ramos and slotted the ball into the net, leveling the score at 1-1 for AC Milan.

In the 51st minute of the second half, Patrick Dogu gained possession and scored, putting Manchester City ahead of AC Milan 2-1 again. In the 57th minute, Chukuese assisted Alfajo Cissé to score, leveling the score at 2-2 for AC Milan.

In the 68th minute, Chucuese delivered a cross, and Gonzalo Ramos headed the ball into the net, putting AC Milan ahead 3-2. In the 71st minute, Loftus-Cheek received a through pass from Gonzalo Ramos and slotted the ball into the net from inside the penalty area.

Ultimately, Manchester United lost 2-4 to AC Milan in this friendly match.

Manchester United goalkeeper Michael Carrick said in an interview, "Overall, I think the performance was good. We can see a lot of positive things in it, we played well in many games, and the team is constantly growing and getting stronger. So, I think it was a positive preseason. Of course, we are all disappointed with this game. We didn't play well, and there are some reasons for that."

“We need to learn from this and continue to improve. Some players are playing their first preseason game, so the situation varies. But that's no excuse; we just didn't play to our potential. We're ready for next week's games, and I think many players will improve as a result of playing time.”

Carrick said, "As I said, we've put in a lot of effort in training, and we've performed quite well in the previous few matches. Therefore, we will continue to approach next week's match with a positive attitude."

“We have a great squad, so we do need to make some choices. We have a whole week of training time to continue with more targeted training, so we will be ready for next week’s game. When the first Premier League game actually comes, the overall feeling will be completely different, and we will be ready to give it our all.”

In addition, Manchester United will travel to Hull City for their first Premier League match of the 2026/27 season.
